NBA COMES DOWN ON CHIEF JUSTICE REGMI FOR ACTING CODE OF CONDUCT FOR JUDGES Kathmandu, 26 Feb.:- Nepal Bar Association (NBA), the umbrella body of Nepali lawyaers, has termed the proposed appointment of the Chief Justice to the post of the Prime Minister as being against judicial norms and values, RSS reports.. The appointment of the head of the judiciary who has to make a judicial review of the unconstitutional acts of the state organs as the executive head would be against the fundamental principle of independence of judiciary, the principle of separation of powers and other international agreements that Nepal is party to, the Bar has said. A meeting of the NBA office-bearers held on Tuesday also decided to demand for a full meeting of the Supreme Court to make its views public with regards to the statement issued by the Court on behalf of the Chief Justice on Monday. "It is against the judges' code of conduct for the Chief Justice to attend a meeting of political parties, issue a statement on an issue that is under consideration at the court and give statements in support of it in the media", reads a statement issued by the Bar following the meeting. It would now be against the code of conduct for the Chief Justice to continue his duties of execution of justice and the act has put him into a moral crisis, adds the statement issued by the Bar General Secretary Sunil Kumar Pokharel. nnnn OPPOSITION IN NC OVER LEADERSHIP FOR REGMI GOVT. ANOTHER CASE FILED AT SUPREME COURT CHALLENGING CHIEF JUSTICE REGMI’S APPOINTMENT Kathmandu, 26 Feb.: Om Prakash Aryal filed a petition at the supreme court Tuesday challenging efforts to form the election government headed by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi. The writ is the second. The fresh writ argues the move to appoint in unconstitutional A special bench is conducting hearing on another writ filed by Advocate Bharat Jangum. Hearing is scheduled for 7 March. The court hearing is has delayed any possible appointment before early March. Nnnn
