1ST SAARC SANITATION CONFERENCE IN NEPAL
Kathmandu, 30 March: The fifth South Asian Sanitation Conference is to be held for the first time in Nepal, RSS reports from Lalitpur.

The fifth South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN) is to be held for the first time Nepal with an objective of formulating policies and programmes by the governments of concerned countries by discussing and consulting with stakeholders on the sanitation of South Asia.

The NGO Fresh Water Action Nepal will organise the conference which will be participated in by representatives of all the countries including Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and stakeholders of all countries.

The first conference was held in Bangladesh in 2003 and the fourth conference in Sri Lanka.

The conference will be held in November 2013 in Kathmandu.

As per government statistics, Nepal has 50 percent population within reach to sanitation and the target is to reach cent percent by 2017.
