Belated British recognition

Kathmandu, 23 July: The British government this month presented
Elizabeth Crosses and memorial scrolls to six dependents and family members of Gurkha soldiers who died fighting for Britain from 1949 to 1982, the British embassy said.
Colonel Andrew McFarlane Mills presented six Elizabeth Crosses and Memorial Scrolls at British Gurkhas Dharan (BGD) to following dependants and family members:

• Mr Maniprasad Rai son of Rfn (Rifleman) Kinderman Rai 10 GR (Gurkha Rifles) who died in Borneo in 1964.
• Mrs Jogmaya Rai wife of Rfn Gopalprasad Rai 10 GR who died in Borneo in 1964.
• Mrs Krishnamaya Rai daughter of Rfn Dangadhoj Rai 10 GR who died in Malaya in 1953.
• Mrs Motisara Rai wife of Rfn Ratnabahadur Rai 7 GR who died in Malaya in 1949.
• Mrs Turimoti Rai wife of Sgt (Sergeant) Kabirbahadur Rai 10 GR who died in Malaya in 1950.
• WO1(Warrant Officer Class 1) (Retd) (Retired) Deoman Limbu father of LCpl (Lance Corporal) Budhiprasad Limbu 7 GR who died in the Falklands in Jun 1982.
• Comments weren’t immediately available from families of the deceased.
• What will medals and scrolls do after so many years of waiting for recognition anyway?
