Special committee meets six party leaders

Kathmandu, 12 April: A special committee on integration, rehabilitation and supervision of Maoist combatants is holding discussions Monday with the six biggest parties in parliament, except Maoists.
The committee is headed by the prime minister.
The committee will hold discussions on delays in integration following differences between government and Maoists.
Three terai parties have been invited to the meeting.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had suggested integration of 19,000 plus Maoist combatants by April before the promulgation of a constitution 28 May.

India sought permission to print MRPs for security reasons

Kathmandu, 12 April: Maoist Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha Prakash told parliament Sunday Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood wrote a letter to Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala 4 December asking to award New Delhi a contract to print machine readable passports (MRPs) for security considerations.
He claimed the contract was given to Indian under New Delhi pressure.
Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala told a FM radio station Monday she wasn’t aware of a secret Indian letter to government and expressed surprise at the reports..
The supreme court begins hearings Monday on its interim order to government not to immediately implement a decision to award a contract to an Indian government security press to print machine readable passports (MRPs) without an international tender.
Government Sunday night, rescinded its decision after widespread protests.

Nepali representative to OHCHR

Kathmandu, 12 April: Government Monday appointed Trilochan Uprety Nepal’s representative to UNHCR.
Secretary Madhav Paudel has been nominated Chairman of Employees’ Provident Fund.
Bishnu Kumar Agrawal and Noor Pratap Rana have been appointed honourary consul generals of Check Republic and Afghanistan respectively.
