Sher Bahadur Deuba confirmed Girija’s successor in Nepali Congress

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 9 April: Sher Bahadur Deuba was confirmed successor of late Girija Prasad Koirala by the party’s central committee meeting Friday.
He’s ranked behind Krishna Prasad Bhattarai who has quit the party; he renewed a call to restore a 1900 constitution and constitutional monarchy.
Nepali Congress still has placed Bhattarai at the top position in the party even after he resigned after the Congress adopted a republican line under Girija.
Acting President Sushil Koirala leader of the parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel re ranked behind Deuba who rebelled against Congress and launched Nepali Congress Democratic after Koirala attempted to dislodge him
The party united after 2005 but the union still isn’t real.
The party central committee also decided Friday to hold a 12th general convention in the capital from 26 to 30 August at the end of the annual monsoon.
The convention will elect the new leadership of the party.
